Evaluating Bandwidth Choices-Fractional DS3 vs DS3

Looking for bandwidth? That can be a daunting and frustrating task even in the best of situations. There's lots to consider in order to make the right decision for your needs. Below you'll find some help when evaluating Fractional DS3 vs DS3. Factors covered include Technology, Speed, Description, Application, Pros, Cons, and Cost.

~~~~~~~~~
Technology: Fractional DS3
Speed: 3 Mbps - 44.736 Mbps
Description: A fraction of a full DS-3, which is comprised of 28 T-1s or 672 channels.
Application: Provides access from a location into the Internet for a large business or ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Pros: Provides very high speed access directly into the carrier's backbone. Bandwidth guaranteed by SLA (Service Level Agreement). Very reliable.
Cons: Setup and monthly costs can be prohibitive.
Costs: A Fractional DS3 will likely start at around $2,000 for a stable, reliable system (e.g. from a Tier 1 provider)....not including the local loop. A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor. Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office (CO) increases. However....the pricing for these connections can vary widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. For example...Tier 1 providers will probably cost more than local/regional Tier 2 and Tier 3 providers but are much more stable and reliable. A Tier 1 provider should be the provider of choice for any business serious about the quality of their network. Also, expect to pay more if you are in a rural area or need integrated (voice and data combined) DS3 service.
Technology: DS3
Speed: 44.736 Mbps
Description: dedicated connection made up of the equivalent of 28 T-1s.
Application: Provides access from a location into the Internet for a large business or ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Pros: Circuit runs directly into the carrier's backbone. Bandwidth guaranteed by SLA (Service Level Agreement). Very reliable.
Cons: Setup and monthly costs can be prohibitive.
Costs: A full DS3 obviously will cost more than a Fractional DS3. Expect cost to start at around a $3-5,000 for a stable, reliable system (e.g. from a Tier 1 provider).....not including the local loop. A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor. Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office (CO) increases. However....the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. For example...Tier 1 providers may cost more than local/regional Tier2 and Tier 3 providers but are much more stable and reliable. A Tier 1 provider should be the provider of choice for any business serious about the quality of their network. Also, expect to pay more if you are in a rural area or need integrated (voice and data combined) or bonded (multiple DS3s bound in 1 network....option vs full OC3) DS3 service.
~~~~~~~~~~

Technology: E3 (Europe)

Speed: 34.368 Mbps

Description: European equivalent of T-3. Made up of the equivalent of 28 T-1s.

Application: Provides access from a location into the Internet for a large business or ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Pros: Circuit runs directly into the carrier's backbone. Bandwidth guaranteed by SLA (Service Level Agreement). Very reliable.

Cons: Setup and monthly costs can be prohibitive.

Costs: A full E3 usually costs more than it's North American counterpart. Expect cost to start at around a $6-8,000 for a stable, reliable 45 Mbps system (e.g. from an equivalent Tier 1 provider). A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor (not common in Europe). Local loops range from $1,000 - $3,000/month. Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office (CO) increases. However....just as with the North American version the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used.

Passenger Cruise Reviews - Are The Really Worth Reading?

Passenger cruise reviews are different from expert cruise reviews. They cover the personal experiences of one passenger. You may wonder why it is necessary to read these reviews if they are not professionally done. In fact, it is not necessary, but reading them can give you some ideas of what to expect on a cruise.

Overall Impressions

One thing passenger reviewers are especially good at is conveying an overall impression of the cruise. If they are pleased with their experiences, you will know it before you have even finished reading the review. If they are disappointed or angry, that will be obvious, too. Their reviews are not generally cluttered up with minute details. Rather, they will tell you whether they recommend that you take this cruise, in no uncertain terms.

Since passenger cruise reviews are so outspoken about overall impressions of the cruises, you will do best if you read many of their reviews. When you get the flavor of the reviews that are being written, you will be able to come to a basic idea of how well the cruise ship meets the needs of its passengers.

Diary Style

Some of the best passenger reviews are done in a diary style. These reviews take you from the beginning of their trip to its conclusion. They may even tell you about their transportation to and from the pier if it is included in their package. With reviews like this, you get a first-hand account of how the cruise turned out for them.

The diary style lets them tell you exactly what happened on the cruise. Even though they may have their own impressions of what took place, you will know more about it if you have facts about the circumstances. If a passenger is angry, their description may be colored by their rage, but you can take the facts and determine whether the same situation would cause you undue stress.

If you are a first time cruiser, the diary style will help you to know what to expect on a cruise. The reviewer may tell some of the details that travel agents forget to mention. If the passenger reviewing the cruise had a problem, they may tell you how to avoid it in the future.

Unbiased

While passengers may have strong opinions, they are not bound by any agreement with the cruise lines to tilt their reviews one way or another. They will say what they really think. They are sure to speak their minds because their interests are served by expressing themselves honestly. That is the main reward they get out of reviewing.

Passenger cruise reviews are not as straightforward as many expert reviews. They are often full of emotion. However, they are a source of honest expression that is easy to find and read.

Antwerp: A Quick Guide

The second biggest city in Belgium, Antwerp is located about 50km north of Brussels on the River Schelde, roughly 88km inland from the North Sea. Since the city lies within the Flemish part of Belgium, it is known unofficially as the capital of Flanders. This historical aspect of the local identity is taken quite seriously by the people of Antwerp.

Antwerp is a very old city, dating from the Gallo-Roman era. The name most likely derives from the Dutch "aan de werpe", meaning "at the throw", because of its location at the point where the river 'throws', or deposits sand.

Because of its important location as a port city, Antwerp has an illustrious history as a centre of tradimg from all over the world. Trade brought a lot of distinction and wealth to the city. This is most evident in the fine churches and museums that can be seen throughout the downtown area. Today it is the world capital of the diamond trade ?with an estimated 70% of the worlds diamonds having been traded through the city.

Some attractions for the visitor include 'Rubenshuis', the house of the famous painter, Rubens, which contains a museum of his life and work. The Plantin Moretus Museum, which is the home of Christoffel Plantin, the 16th century printer and bookbinder. Antwerp Zoo, is one of the oldest in the world, with beautiful architecture from the 19th century and home to over 4,000 animals. The Fine Arts Museum, known locally as Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, has a great collection of paintings dating from the 15th century up to the present day. The museum is home to such masters as Rubens, Van Eyck, Van Dyke, Van Brueghels and Jordaens to name but a few.

There are also a number of scenic boat trips that can be taken in the city, particularly around the old port of Antwerp.
